New, improved sport courts are now ready for play at six PUD parks

by Rachel Hansen | Nov 03, 2023

Chelan PUD re-opened new and improved sport courts at six parks, including 12 more pickleball courts.

The new pickleball courts were part of a maintenance project to ensure safety, quality and longevity of sport courts. The work included resurfacing, new nets and posts, asphalt repair and relining for pickleball play.

The improved sport courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis at Kirby Billingsley Hydro Park, Confluence State Park, Lincoln Rock, Chelan Falls Park, Daroga State Park and Beebe Bridge Park.

Chelan PUD finished a similar project at Walla Walla Point Park last year that resulted in six pickleball courts. The work this year will bring the total to 18 pickleball courts.

When freezing temperatures persist, the sports courts will close for winter and early spring, when the new surfacing is most vulnerable to damage. Chelan PUD asks park visitors to refrain from removing snow or applying de-icer on the new surface.

“We’re all excited to play on the new sport courts. It’s up to all of us to be good stewards so these courts can last for years to come,” said Parks Manager Ryan Baker.
