Power Outage Tips

Stay informed:

  • Customers are encouraged to follow Chelan PUD on Facebook and Twitter. These are excellent resources for updates on power outages, as well as tips. 
  • Remember to sign up for Chelan County safety and emergency alerts, as well.  These updates can be sent directly via text, email, or voicemail.

In case of a power outage:

  • If you see a downed line, assume it is live and stay at least 40 feet away.  Do not attempt to remove tree limbs or other items from the lines. Call 911 to report fallen lines.
  • Report a power or PUD water outage by calling our 24-hour line, 877-783-8123. Listen to the recording and stay on the line if you have information to add or a special need.
  • Unplug electronics and turn off the heat/furnace.
  • Leave one porch and/or indoor light on so PUD crews can see when the power has been restored.

Planned Outages

Planned maintenance to maintain reliable electrical service may require scheduled power outages. We are aware of the inconvenience this can cause our customers, but a planned outage now can prevent longer, emergency outages later.

In the event of a planned outage:

  • PUD staff will attempt to notify customers by phone and/or email typically two business days prior to scheduled, non-emergency power outages.
  • Please make sure we have your current contact information by updating it here or calling us at (509) 661-8002.
  • We encourage you to charge your devices, save your work frequently, and properly shut down electronics prior to a planned outage.
  • Chelan PUD communicates planned power outages with other public entities such as local school districts.

PUD Med Line

Customers who rely on life-sustaining equipment are a concern for us. Please let us know if you are dependent on a kidney dialysis machine, a ventilator, or other such equipment. Email or call our Customer Service Department at (509) 661-8400. Customers using life-sustaining equipment can ask to be placed on our Med Line notification list. During unscheduled outages, we will attempt to restore service as quickly as possible to individuals with these special medical needs. We cannot and do not guarantee uninterrupted services. If a power outage would create a problem for you, we recommend that you install or have in place a backup system to support your needs during an outage.

An additional resource is the Chelan County Department of Emergency Management Special Needs Registry. This is for individuals who require assistance in an emergency. Participation in the registry is voluntary and all information is strictly confidential, used only for emergency purposes.
