CONTRACT RATE

Earn while you learn! Chelan PUD pays $13.92 - $15.73 per hour (based on education, skills and abilities).

JOB DURATION

The student in this position will work full-time during the summer (Monday - Friday; typically 8:00 am - 5:00 pm) and may also work, if available, during winter and spring academic breaks (for one or two years, depending on student status, need, budget and performance).

Interviews will be conducted during spring break (where possible); alternatively, in-person, phone or video as scheduled.

JOB POSTING

JOB PURPOSE:         
Work in the Business Intelligence & Data Analytics department under the direction of the District Program Manager and Data Analysts to learn basic design, development, enhancement and utilization of data analytics and business intelligence information. Provide support and assist with data project definition and documentation, report building, data model development and analytical querying and presentation. The incumbent will get exposed to the fields of business intelligence, advanced data analytics, information technology or other related areas of study and apply knowledge acquired in the classroom to real-work situations, as well as gain skills and experience.
Student work schedules are limited to a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year, except during academic school breaks. Students may work up to 40 hours per week during spring, winter, and summer academic school breaks. Student employment may not exceed two years from the date of hire.

#  EF/SF % of Time Job Functions
1. EF 35% Business Intelligence – Provide basic support for the design and development of BI solutions and processes. Extract and model data. Conduct data quality checks, create recurring reports and dashboards. Perform ad-hoc requests and test, monitor and publish BI content.

2. EF 30%  Data Analytics – Provide basic support to analyze data and communicate insights. Assist in performing basic analysis of large and diverse datasets. Explore data sources, processes, uses and definitions to clean, process and translate data into meaningful insights.  

3. EF 20% Reporting, Communication & Collaboration – Work with stakeholders to identify, define and document BI & Analytic projects and present results of ad-hoc requests. Participate in BI & Data Analytics core team meetings and collaboratively work across internal departments.

4. EF 15% Project Teams – Participate on project teams performing individual assignments. May coordinate meetings and document actions.

5. EF Ongoing Must immediately inform supervisor if student enrollment status changes and the employee no longer meet student eligibility guidelines.  

6. EF Ongoing Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

Higher Education:         
Requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED), or current participation in a Running Start Program or home-based instruction and in senior year of high school curriculum. Must be at least 17 years of age at time of hire. Must be currently enrolled in a bona fide education program (in an accredited college or university) with valid documentation presented at hire and subsequent quarter/semester enrollments. Requires some pre-requisite coursework towards a degree in mathematics/statistics, business analytics, data analytics, information technology or other related field. Must be earning a minimum of 10 credits for each applicable quarter/semester and must maintain a minimum overall grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Experience:         
No employment experience required for this entry-level position but previous experience with reporting and analytics software pulling from a database is preferred. 

Specific KSA's: A fully skilled incumbent will have the following specific knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge:
• Familiarity with general business, economic and accounting theory preferred.
• Familiarity with quantitative analytical methods and tools, data extraction and manipulation techniques and database table structures preferred.
• Basic knowledge of data modeling and computation financial accounting and reporting and proper internal control techniques and computer application and analysis tools preferred.
• Familiarity with at least one data visualization/report building application such as IBM Cognos, Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, etc. helpful.
• Familiarity with at least one query/analytics language such as SQL, R or Python helpful.

Skills & Abilities:
• Must possess strong interpersonal and teamwork skills to help solve problems creatively.
• Requires good communication skills commitment to quality work, and attention to detail, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, organizational skills, integrity, openness, accountability and self-motivation.
• Able to support Business Intelligence team in analyzing data and issues in a disciplined and structured manner using tools and techniques in mathematics, statistics and data science.
• Must enjoy the challenge and nuances of applying technology and analytical solutions to complex and often imperfect datasets.

Language Skills:         
Must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.

Computers & Equipment: A fully skilled incumbent will have the ability to utilize the following software, hardware, or equipment:

To perform this job successfully, an individual is required to have basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook; Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and general office equipment. Individual is required to have an intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
