Planning to Power - all the way to 2075

Substations are an integral part of Chelan PUD’s electrical power system, bringing together generation, transmission, and distribution. In alignment with the long-range vision of Imagine 2075, the Substation Program provides a strategic framework for proactively improving and expanding substation infrastructure. The PUD's Substation Program ensures we can continue delivering safe, reliable power to meet the evolving needs of Chelan County.

Burdened Transformer

Background

The equipment inside Chelan PUD's College Substation is reaching the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced. Over the next several years, we will begin planning to update the substation components and add new transmission switching equipment to improve system reliability for our customers.
The project will involve a phased rebuild of the substation, including replacing the two transformers and adding a new 115 kV ring bus inside the substation yard.

The anticipated timeline for this project is:
  • 2027: Begin stakeholder outreach, design, permitting, and initiate procurement of long lead time items
  • 2028: Phase 1 construction
  • 2029: Phase 2 construction
