CONTRACT RATE

$51.01  -  per hour (to be determined by award of bid) plus $1.50 per hour rotating shift differential.

JOB POSTING

JOB PURPOSE:  Provide labor support on rotating shifts in accordance with District safety guidelines and policies and procedures. Maintains, inspects and diagnoses malfunctions on turbines, generators, fish ladders, hatcheries and other auxiliary mechanical equipment. Replaces, repairs and tests equipment to ensure proper working order. Uses hand and power tools to complete work. May work from drawings, sketches and blueprints. Fabricates special tools, rigging equipment, aligning pumps, couplings, motors and replacement parts for equipment. This position will report to the Plant Maintenance Superintendent.

JOB FUNCTIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function of the job satisfactorily.

1. 100% Provide mechanical labor support such as operating tools, equipment and District vehicles, working both independently and in a crew structure for the installation, repair and maintenance of District assets and interests. Including assigned duties and maintenance activities such as oil/water purification inspections, operating overhead cranes, hoists, winches, rigging, painting, welding, grinding, pipe fitting, machinist, carpentry, concrete work and similar activities. This includes all hydro projects, fish rearing facilities, other departments and public entities.
2. Ongoing Drive a motorized vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the District.
3. Ongoing Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Although journeyman do not typically supervise, they will be responsible for training and demonstrating work skills and safe working practices to apprentices and trainees. Journey level workers are occasionally required to lead and direct the crew in the absence of a foreman.

QUALIFICATIONS:  The qualifications listed below are representative of those required, but reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Post-Secondary Education: No higher level education required.

Experience:  Requires having a technical apprenticeship certification or three years experience in industrial mechanical maintenance. Qualified candidates will be able to demonstrate applicable working experience performing mechanical equipment installation, repair and maintenance.

Specific KSA's: A fully skilled incumbent will have the following specific knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge:
• Must possess or obtain within three months from hire date, First Aid and CPR certifications.

Skills:
• Requires good interpersonal skills, ability to get along with others and ability to follow directions.
• Must possess basic keyboarding and maintenance record keeping capabilities.

Abilities:
• Must meet established departmental standards in the District’s physical ability test.
• Requires ability to work on or around man lift equipment and in and around confined spaces.
• Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating shift.

Language Skills:  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Complexity:  The level of complexity is intermediate.

Decision Making:  This position has a level of responsibility and accountability to make decisions that affect the safe and efficient use of resources, tools and equipment. They will work under the supervision of a Mechanical Foreman and the Plant Maintenance Superintendent.

Computers & Equipment:  A fully skilled incumbent will have the ability to utilize the following software, hardware, or equipment:  To perform this job successfully, an individual is required to have knowledge of PeopleSoft Timekeeping/HR; Microsoft Outlook; Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Word; Maximo Work Order Processing; Maximo Asset Management; General Office Equipment; Heavy Equipment; and Power Equipment. An individual should also be able to correctly operate various shop tools and heavy equipment, including, but not limited to, brakes, shears, saws and welders.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

A valid driver's license is required for this position (verified upon hire).  A valid Washington State driver's license is required within 30 days of employment.
