Pole replacement, low-flying helicopter along Tumwater Canyon Oct. 13

by Rachel Hansen | Oct 06, 2021

Chelan PUD will replace four power poles along the Old Pipeline Bed Trail in Tumwater Canyon, about 1.5 miles west of Leavenworth, on Oct. 13.

The trail will be closed for safety 6 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday while a low-flying helicopter delivers new poles from the Red Bridge parking lot for installation along the power line. The timing may vary based on weather conditions.

The 52-year-old poles were identified as a priority for replacement based on the PUD’s wood pole testing program, which inspects about 10 percent of the PUD’s poles each year. Each pole is inspected every 10 years to ensure safety and reliability.
