With the safety of students, parents and staff the highest priority, Rocky Reach Discovery Center has canceled its science classes for summer 2020. The classes for elementary school students are usually held in July.
It was a difficult decision, said Debbie Gallaher, Visitor Services manager, because the classes are popular with all ages. “We’ll be back next year, no doubt about that,” Gallaher said.
With the Discovery Center closed for renovations this year, staff had planned to offer programs in PUD and state parks across the region. Ultimately, the outbreak of COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the programs to reduce health risks for everyone.
Still, Gallaher invites families looking for a place to stretch their legs to visit Rocky Reach Dam Park anytime this summer. The park, its big lawns and beautiful plantings are open daily from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. daily through Sept. 30. (The playground remains closed.) Remember to bring snacks and hand sanitizer, she added.
