Careers Meterman Apprentice

The apprentice shall be given such experience and instruction as is necessary to develop into a practical, skilled, competent craftsman in his/her classification and in so far as practicable this will cover all branches of the trade.On-the-job training will consist of the following but not limited to:

  1. Installation, testing and calibration of typical single phase and poly phase meters.
  2. Basic concepts of metering.
  3. Self-contained meter application.
  4. Transformer-rated meter applications.
  5. Recognizing power diversion.
  6. Fault and cable locating.
  7. Handling customer complaints.
  8. Computer training.

There is a total of 6,000 hours of on-the-job training. The apprentice is also required to attend classroom instruction for a minimum of 144 hours per year on his/her own time.
