Chelan County PUD is working to build electric system capacity and reliability in the Manson area. Over the next several years, Chelan PUD will investigate options to meet current growth and increase reliability in the near-term, while working with the community to develop a long-term plan to accommodate electricity demand.
Near-term solutions being investigated include:
1. Building a short loop transmission line to enhance reliability by allowing for power switching during outages;
2. Installing an additional power transformer at the existing Manson Substation to increase capacity; and
3. Upgrading the existing distribution system.
Long-term projects being considered include:
1. Upgrading existing distribution lines to include transmission conductors;
2. Find and acquire property to build a new substation to distribute the electrical load; and
3. Investigate construction of a larger transmission loop system to provide system redundancy and align with current utility design standards.
Community Outreach
The PUD began initial public outreach on this project in 2025.
Staff presented an overview of the project to the Chelan PUD Board of Commissioners on April 7, 2025. You can view that presentation here:
