Behind-the-Scenes Tour of the Lake Chelan Powerhouse and Salmon Recovery Habitat
Join us Saturday, Oct. 22 & Saturday, Oct. 29, as we open up Lake Chelan Powerhouse and Salmon Recovery Habitat for FREE public tours.
In depth, behind the scenes tours of the Lake Chelan Powerhouse, for those 12 and older, are the focus of this event. Public tours are rare for this powerhouse, built in the 1920s, so reserve your spot today.
Part of this tour will focus on the Salmon Recovery Habitat which was constructed as mitigation for the Lake Chelan Hydroelectric Project during the third license. This project was constructed to enhance summer and fall Chinook salmon and steelhead spawning and rearing habitat. This habitat is functioning exceptionally well! A record number of Chinook Salmon Redds (nests) were observed in both areas in 2013. Steelhead are also using the habitat channel for spawning.
Pre-registration for this event is required. Call Rocky Reach Visitor Center at (509) 663-7522 to reserve your spot.
