Chelan County PUD
Good news for boaters and recreationists, the Kirby Billingsley Hydro Park boat launch is opening more than a week ahead of schedule. Crews worked long hours to finish the 38-foot ramp extension and quickly reopened the launch sooner than anticipated.
Protective buoys that kept river bottom soil from being stirred up and released into fish passage areas were removed yesterday and the final clean-up is taking place this morning. The road and parking area at the boat launch will reopen to the public today.
The extension of the boat ramp ensures that at least one public boat launch will be available on the Rock Island reservoir for the rest of the season. Chelan County PUD was concerned that the drawdown of the Wanapum reservoir and the seasonal low water flows could result in all three public boat launches on the Rock Island reservoir would be forced to close this summer. Now recreationists will have an option for accessing the river throughout the summer and into the fall.
Pictures of the wrap-up work are attached.
