Work begins today on a project to improve native habitat and prevent erosion at Kirby Billingsley Hydro Park.
Chelan PUD plans to stabilize and rehabilitate about 1,700 feet of riverbank at Hydro Park with native trees, shrubs and river cobble. A similar project will begin Sept. 20 along about 1,500 feet of riverbank at Beebe Bridge Park.
“We’re committed to stewardship of the Columbia River,” said Keith Simpson, a construction manager at Chelan PUD. “The goal is to create healthy habitat for fish and wildlife, and ensure the long-term quality of our parks.”
Short-term impacts to park visitors will be minimal. Shoreline access may be restricted, a few sidewalks may be detoured to make way for heavy equipment, and a few riverside campsites at Beebe Bridge Park will be temporarily unavailable.
Both projects are expected to be finished by early November. For information, visit chelanpud.org/parks.
