Construction will detour loop trail users away from Hawley Street next week

by Kimberlee Craig | Apr 30, 2020

Part of Hawley Street in north Wenatchee and the stretch of Apple Capital Loop Trail next to it will close to traffic on Monday-Friday, May 4-8, for work to bring expanded electric service to the Diamond Foundry.

Stemilt Industrial Development, LLC is building a substation to provide additional capacity to serve the gemstone maker’s new facility in Wenatchee. Contractors Schmitt Electric and Pipkin Construction are doing the work.

Walkers and runners can use the trail through the Horan Natural Area to go around the closure. Bicyclists will need to use streets to detour. Cyclists who chose to go through the natural area must get off and walk their bike.

Trail users are reminded to follow signs in the natural area and use the trail closest to the river to protect sensitive wildlife.

The road closure is needed so construction crews can dig a trench across Hawley Street for underground power lines to connect the new substation to the facility.
