JOB POSTING

JOB PURPOSE: 
Under the direction of the Distribution Stations Wireman Foreman, this position performs skilled construction, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of District Transmission & Distribution system electrical equipment and circuitry. 

JOB FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function of the job satisfactorily. 1.    EF    85%    Install, test, troubleshoot, repair and maintain electrical/mechanical equipment and systems including components such as transformers, regulators, reclosers, sectionalizers, breakers, and switchgear. Install conduit, boxes, wire and devices. 
2.    EF    15%    Performs construction of transmission and distribution systems and facilities, including tasks such as basic plumbing, concrete work, wood working and metal fabrication. 
3.    EF    Ongoing    Drive a motorized vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the District.
4.    EF    Ongoing    Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:                       
Although journeyman do not typically supervise, they will be responsible for training and demonstrating work skills and safe working practices to apprentices and trainees. Journey level workers are occasionally required to lead and direct the crew in the absence of a foreman.

Post-Secondary Education: 
No post-secondary education required.

Experience: 
Requires completion of an accredited electrical apprenticeship and experience working as a Journeyman electrician or wireman or must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the industrial or commercial electrical field.  Qualified candidates will demonstrate applicable working experience constructing, testing, repairing and maintaining high-voltage electrical equipment and associated systems.  Applicants must successfully pass a journeyman exam which is administered by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) within one (1) year of hire.  Requires CPR Certification and valid First Aid card within 120 days of hire. 

Specific KSA's: A fully skilled incumbent will have the following specific knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge:
•    Must be knowledgeable and familiar with the District’s Transmission & Distribution System equipment, auxiliaries and circuits. 
•    Requires strong working knowledge of the fundamentals of electricity.
•    Strong understanding of high and low voltage wiring-both AC and DC and knowledge of electrical codes
•    Must understand basics of rigging and lifting.  

Skills & Abilities:
•    Ability to read, understand and work from wiring diagrams, schematics and substation/switchyard blueprints 
•    Basic carpentry, plumbing, concrete and metal working skills. 
•    Ability to maintain, trouble shoot, repair and adjust electrical apparatus in a safe and efficient manner.
•    Must have good interpersonal skills and ability to work well independently and/or on a team 
•    A Commercial Driver's License Type A with current medical card and air brake restriction removed and Tanker Endorsement is optional.

Language Skills: 
Must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.

Computers & Equipment: A fully skilled incumbent will have the ability to utilize the following software, hardware, or equipment:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Outlook; PeopleSoft Timekeeping/HR; Microsoft Word; all types of electrical testing equipment, a full range of power tools as well as multiple types and sizes of vehicles and equipment including but not limited to forklifts, scissor lifts, bucket trucks and boom trucks.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

A valid driver's license is required for this position (verified upon hire).  A valid Washington State driver's license is required within 30 days of employment.
