On-Call Flagger (Open until Filled)

PLEASE NOTE

This position is "on-call"; the incumbent will work intermittent and sporadic work shifts with no guarantee of hours.  Work may be planned in advance, or with short notice.

Although the position is Open until Filled, applicants are encouraged to apply immediately.  The first review date is scheduled for June 23, 2020, and thereafter as needed.

 

CONTRACT RATE

Wages start at $178.16 (8-hour day); $222.70 (10-hr day); $267.24 (12-hr day when you have already worked an 8-hour day in the workweek).  There are no employee medical/health benefits associated with this position.  *On-call positions, in accordance with the Washington State Paid Sick Leave Law, you will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours actually worked.

JOB POSTING

JOB PURPOSE:              
Under general supervision, performs traffic control duties for District crews to maintain and direct vehicular traffic through District construction sites using sign, hand, and flag signals. Informs drivers of detour routes through construction work sites.

JOB FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function of the job satisfactorily.

1. EF 100% Directs traffic and performs flagging activities as needed in construction work sites, including placing signs, barricades, traffic cones and other warning devices; duties may vary according to job assignment in construction work sites.

2. EF Ongoing Drive a motorized vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the District.

3. EF Ongoing Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

Post-Secondary Education:              
No higher-level education required.

Experience:              
Previous construction flagging experience preferred.

Specific KSA's: A fully skilled incumbent will have the following specific knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• Must provide personal transportation with ability to carry signs.
• Washington State Flagging certification required at hire.
• Must possess or obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within ninety (90) days of employment.

Language Skills:              
Must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English.

Computers & Equipment: A fully skilled incumbent will have the ability to utilize the following software, hardware, or equipment:

To perform this job successfully, an individual is required to have knowledge of and be able to operate and use equipment and transportation necessary as a construction flagger.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles. The noise level is usually moderate.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

A valid driver's license is required for this position (verified upon hire).  A valid Washington State driver's license is required within 30 days of employment.
