Chelan County PUD is offering qualified residential customers served by PUD water systems financial assistance to install water-efficient irrigation systems.

The majority of excessive water use in Chelan County occurs during the summer irrigating season.  It is not unusual for customers to increase their water use tenfold during the summer months. A water-efficient irrigation system lowers water bills by saving water.

Available measures include:

• PUD-approved backflow device
• Trenching
• Pipes, valves, sprinkler heads, low-flow emitters
• Timers/controllers

The loan program offers:

• Low interest rates
• 10-year repayment schedule
• Loan of $4,000 using a registered installer*
• Loan maximum of $2,000 using an unregistered installer or owner-installed
• No down payment

*A registered installer holds a state contractor's license, has at least one year of experience in the profession and has attended a PUD-sponsored workshop.

Who qualifies

• Owners of single or multifamily residences
• Customers whose summer water use is double the winter use
• Customers who use PUD water as their only source of water

Follow these simple steps:

1. Contact the PUD to obtain more information and a packet containing a list of registered installers, irrigation guidelines, and a summary of the loan program
2. Obtain bids and select an installer
3. Submit the chosen bid and plans to the PUD

The PUD can make recommendations on Xeriscape landscaping.  A Xeriscape landscape saves water, lowers water bills, requires less maintenance and is environmentally friendly.
