Chelan PUD Commissioners and staff know how important the current PUD headquarters location is to the vitality of downtown businesses. In a partnership with the City of Wenatchee and the Port of Chelan County, and with key involvement from the Wenatchee Downtown Association and The Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce, an economic development/redevelopment consultant was hired to look at what the potential is for the headquarters campus. They have been out talking with local businesses, community leaders and PUD customers to find out what vision they see for the current PUD building at Fifth Street and North Wenatchee Avenue. There may be opportunities that have yet to be discovered. On the north edge of the central business district, the PUD site could have enormous potential for the community.
The goal will be:
- If a new, consolidated Service Center is approved by the Commission, continue pursuing redevelopment of the Fifth Street and North Wenatchee Avenue location simultaneously with the design of the Service Center
- Look for an opportunity for an “early victory.” That is, could something be carved out on the current PUD Headquarters campus and redeveloped even before a full-scale move occurs
- What does the community want to see or have happen on this site – the possibilities are endless
