Celebrate the power of trees on April 5 at tree seedling distributions in five Chelan County communities.

This year’s Wenatchee Arbor Day celebration is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Riverfront Park ice rink in Wenatchee at the foot of Fifth Street.

Other tree seedling distributions sites on April 5 are: 

• Cashmere – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Clifford’s Hardware, 127 Cottage Ave.
• Leavenworth - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the national fish hatchery, 12790 Fish Hatchery Road.
• Entiat - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at City Hall.
• Orondo - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Market Place

2008 Arbor Day tree and shrub species

• Mock Orange:  7 – 12 feet tall and wide, white spring flower, drought tolerant, Utility Friendly*
• Lilac: 8 – 12 feet tall and wide, showy lavender to white spring flowers, somewhat drought tolerant, Utility Friendly*
• Flowering Dogwood:  15 – 25 feet tall and wide, white spring flower, somewhat drought tolerant, but prefers shaded areas, Utility Friendly*
• Forsythia: 7 – 10 feet tall, 5 – 8 ft. wide, yellow spring flower, medium drought tolerant, Utility Friendly*
• Eastern Red Bud: 15 – 25 ft. tall and wide, lavender pink spring flower, medium drought tolerant, Utility Friendly*
• Mountain Ash: 35 – 45 ft. tall, 15 – 25 ft. wide, white spring flower, drought tolerant
• Silver Bell: 25 – 40 ft. tall and wide, white spring flower, showy yellow fall color, medium drought tolerant
• Norway Maple: 60 – 70 ft. tall, 35 – 50 ft. wide, attractive yellow fall color, drought tolerant
• Austrian Pine: 25 – 40 ft. tall, 25 – 35 ft. wide, evergreen, drought tolerant
• Dwarf Mugo Pine: 3 – 6 ft. tall, 6 – 12 ft. wide, evergreen, very drought tolerant, Utility Friendly*
• Nordmann Fir: 60 – 75 ft. tall, 15 – 25 ft. wide, evergreen, drought tolerant

*Utility Friendly trees/shrubs are acceptable species to plant directly under the utility lines
