The National Association of Fleet Administrators, an industry trade group, announced 2018 top performers at its annual conference held in Anaheim, Calif., and Chelan PUD’s Fleet Services group was in the top 100 fleets in North America for the second year in a row.
Judging is based on an application by the PUD and review by peers, best practices and site visits by industry judges.
Some of the factors that contributed to the recognition include:
- Overall availability of vehicles in the fleet – the PUD has a 99-percent availability on critical equipment – well above industry standard
- Reduced emissions due to use of biodiesel fuels
- Overall stewardship and maintenance of the fleet
- Personal accountability by Fleet staff for efficiency and cost savings by doing more work in-house rather than outsourcing
“For two consecutive years, Chelan County PUD has been recognized as a top 100 Fleet and published in Governing Magazine,” said Lance Knudtson, Fleet Services supervisor. “The competition is getting tougher every year. I have challenged the PUD team to rank in the top 100 Fleets year over year and strive to achieve the ranking of No. 1 before I retire from the District and that would be in 2033 at the earliest.
“I am extremely proud of our staff, added Knudtson. Every day they do their best to make sure they provide our internal customers with safe and reliable equipment to meet the needs of the District and the community.”
This is the second year the PUD Fleet group has earned this distinction and demonstrates the commitment of all employees to live the goals of the District’s strategic plan by doing the best for the most for the longest period of time. The PUD has made it a priority to invest in its assets and its people to create value for customer-owners.
“We continually strive to overcome the challenges we face in this ever-changing industry, and it is a privilege to be part of this great team,” Knudtson said. The purpose of this annual ranking is to promote pride in the industry; identify outstanding operations for others to emulate; provide recognition within the national fleet community; promote ever-increasing levels of productivity and operational effectiveness and to demonstrate best practices.”
