Chelan PUD is an award-winning utility, often recognized for
its innovation and achievements.
2011 Awards
- Demonstration of Energy Efficient Developments (DEED) Award
presented to Chelan County PUD by American Public Power
Association (APPA) for idle-reduction technology installed on
PUD heavy-duty vehicles to save fuel and extend vehicle life.
2010 Awards
- Outstanding Steward of America’s Waters from National
Hydropower Association. The award recognized the $16 million
one-of-a-kind undertaking completed in 2009 as part of the new
50-year operating license for the Lake Chelan Hydro Project.
The project restores year-round flows to the Chelan
River, adds four acres of new spawning and rearing habitat at
the lower end of the river and provides additional water from a
new pump station at key times of the year for steelhead and
salmon spawning.
2009 Awards
- Northwest Public Power Association’s Safety Award,
recognizing Chelan PUD’s safety results based on more
than 1,000,000 staff hours of exposure for 2008. The safety
results consider the number of recordable injury/illness cases
and lost work days.
2008 Awards
- Hydro Achievement Award from National Hydropower
Association in category of "Operational Excellence"
for the PUD's comprehensive security program.
- State "lifesaving and humanitarian" award for
heroic acts that saved lives: Chelan County PUD employees Blake
Hancock, Mike Broderson and Jose Urrutia saved a man from
drowning after he fell down an embankment into the Columbia
River at Walla Walla Point Park.
- Northwest Public Power Association’s Excellence in
Communication contest recognized Chelan County PUD for its top
communication efforts with an award for the Internet Web site
and 2007 Annual Report.
2006 Awards
- National Hydropower Association's Public Education
Hydro Achievement Award, in recognition of the River of Power
program.
- National Hydropower Association's Outstanding
Stewardship of America's Rivers Award, in recognition of
the Rocky Reach and Rock Island Habitat Conservation Plans.
2005 Awards
- National Hydropower Association's Outstanding
Stewardship of America's Rivers Award, in recognition of
the Rocky Reach and Rock Island Habitat Conservation Plans.
2004 Awards
- E.F. Scattergood System Achievement Award is presented to
one or two utilities annually for overall achievement and
customer benefits. Chelan County PUD has won the award twice
before, in 1959 and 1991, and now becomes only the second
utility in the country to win it three times.
- National Hydropower Association's Technological
Solutions Hydro Achievement Award, in recognition of the Rocky
Reach juvenile fish bypass system.
- Paul J. Raver Award, Northwest Public Power Association, in
recognition of Chelan County PUD community service.
2003 Awards
- Interstate Renewable Energy Council 2003 National Renewable
Energy Recognition Award, in recognition of the SNAP
(Sustainable Natural Alternative Power) program.
- Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission
Certificate of Appreciation, 2003, in recognition of
cooperative efforts that allowed the state to keep operating
PUD parks during a difficult state budget crunch.
- American Fisheries Society Western Division Conservation
Achievement Award, 2003, in recognition of construction of the
$112 million fish bypass system at Rocky Reach Dam.
