CONTRACT RATE

In addition to the Contract Rate of $14.08 - $20.13 per hour (which may be determined by previous employment) Chelan PUD employees also enjoy outstanding benefits which include the option of a zero cost medical plan (medical, dental and vision for all eligible dependents), holidays and personal leave accrual. 

JOB DURATION

Seasonal park positions are open now and may continue to become available during the 2020 season. Positions may be for 3-6 months and vary in working hours and locations (Chelan/Beebe Bridge, Walla Walla, Rocky Reach and/or Kirby Billingsley).

Park employees work five consecutive days, 40 hours per week, which includes holidays and weekends; employees have two consecutive days off per week - for example, Monday and Tuesday; subject to change based on operational needs. Work hours vary and may be 6:00 am - 2:30 pm or 2:30 - 11:00 pm; based on operational needs and subject to change. There is possible overtime on weekends and holidays to accommodate "park closing" activities.

JOB POSTING

JOB PURPOSE:
Perform park landscape and maintenance duties, using hand or power tools or equipment or cleaning/sanitizing supplies. Workers typically perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: mowing, sod laying, trimming, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, sprinkler installation and maintenance, litter and rubbish removal, cleaning and sanitizing restroom and picnic shelter facilities, turf and planting bed maintenance, curb, sidewalk, trail maintenance, operating automotive and grounds maintenance equipment such as ball field grooming equipment, large riding mowers, front end loaders, tillers, power rakes, and small snow removal equipment. Assist in meeting the needs of the general public and special event organizers as directed by the Park Foreman, and Park Management Staff. Accountable for assisting others in maintaining District owned and operated parks.

This is considered an entry-level job; it is intended to be an in-training type position. An employee completing 12 months of service in this position and/or successful completion of all appropriate items on the Park Maintenance 1 check list will be upgraded to Park Maintenance 1.

JOB FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function of the job satisfactorily. Essential functions (EF) are those activities that, if not performed, would significantly and fundamentally alter the position.

1. EF 30% Custodial Maintenance: Garbage pickup, litter pickup, rubbish removal, restroom and shelter cleaning and sanitizing,

2. EF 25% Recreation Area Maintenance: Baseball, basketball, horseshoe pits, soccer, play equipment, tennis, and volleyball. Grooming, raking, sweeping, trimming, and the use of a fire hose for wetting fields.

3. EF 10% Landscape Maintenance: Debris hauling, leaf removal, turf maintenance, planting/barking, and sod, shrub care, weeding, trail and road edging, turf mowing, and weed eating.

4. EF 5% Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Miscellaneous small equipment, walk behind mowing equipment, pruning equipment, athletic field equipment, etc.

5. EF 5% Facility Care and Maintenance: painting, vandalism repair.

6. EF 5% Hard Surface Maintenance: Parking lots, drains, sidewalks, curbs, trail sweeping and edging.

7. EF 5% Marine Maintenance: Boat launch, docks and swim area debris removal and other routine maintenance as required.

8. EF 5% Sign Maintenance: Graffiti removal, cleaning.

9. EF 5% Utilities Maintenance: irrigation, sprinklers, and swing joint repair and replacement. Lighting: fixture cleaning.

10. EF 5% Administrative: Counter reading, safety/training, see to the needs of the general public and special events as directed by the Park Foreman and Park Management staff. Communicate with other staff as needed.

11. EF Ongoing  Drive a motorized vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the District.

12. EF Ongoing  Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

Post-Secondary Education:
No higher-level education required.

Experience:
Experience with landscape maintenance, custodial maintenance, or recreation area maintenance preferred.

Specific KSA's: A fully skilled incumbent will have the following specific knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge:
• Working knowledge of techniques and basic tools associated with a variety of landscaping and park maintenance tasks.

Skills & Abilities:
• Requires good interpersonal and communication skills.  
• Must be courteous, tactful and friendly to the public and coworkers. 
• Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously and effectively in a group or crew environment. 
• Familiarity with Chelan County PUD parks, travel times and types of equipment needed for specific tasks. 

Language Skills:
Must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English. Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is desired.

Computers & Equipment: A fully skilled incumbent will have the ability to utilize the following software, hardware, or equipment:

To perform this job successfully, an individual will be able to safely operate various power tools including, drills, push mowers, weed eaters, ladders, various manual tools including screwdrivers, wrenches, shovels, rakes, loppers, brooms, materials and supplies, painting supplies, pickups, Cushman turf carts, and riding mowers.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

A valid driver's license is required for this position (verified upon hire).  A valid Washington State driver's license is required within 30 days of employment.
