Charitable Events

The employees of Chelan PUD share a common determination to make life better in the Wenatchee Valley. We're a family of people who go to work everyday helping make a difference in our community and the lives of others. It' fun to help other people, and here's just some of the projects near and dear to us.

Andrew York Lineman Rodeo

In 2000, Andrew York was struck by a drunk driver while working as a journeyman lineman for Chelan PUD. To honor Andrew’s memory, Chelan PUD, together with other local utilities and supporters, created the Andrew York Lineman Rodeo and Memorial Fund. Linemen from around the Northwest tested their skills at the annual rodeo which was dedicated to increasing public awareness about senseless deaths and injuries caused by impaired driving and the dangers of not wearing seatbelts. Proceeds from the 10 year event raised over $160,000 for the memorial fund. Scholarships are open annually to graduating seniors from any high school in Washington State active in drug and alcohol abuse prevention or awareness. Applications and scholarship information is available through the Community Foundation of NCW at www.cfncw.org.

Helping Hand

Chelan PUD employees and customers help low-income families pay their electric bills by donating to our Helping Hand program. Helping Hand funds are managed by the Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council.

Community Foundation of NCW

Chelan PUD employees are able to support their community by signing up for a simple payroll deduction program supported by the Community Foundation of North Central Washington, which allows them to direct their donations to hundreds of local nonprofits and scholarship funds.  In 2021, PUD employees pledged over $36,500 in giving!

Make a Difference Day

America's largest day of doing good, Make a Difference Day, is the fourth Saturday in October. On the nation's largest single day of volunteerism, Chelan PUD employees join more than 3 million people who turn out to help thousands of others.

Relay for Life

Cancer touches many lives and Chelan PUD employees join in an annual fun-filled overnight event to celebrate survivors and raise money for research and other programs for the American Cancer Society. Leading up to the event we host bake sales, golf tournaments and other events to raise thousands of dollars for this vital cause.

Holiday turkey drive

In honor of a former employee who started the practice of providing holiday food baskets and a visit from Santa for needy families, Chelan PUD continues the tradition by raising money with a charity golf tournament and an annual appeal to employees.

Sustainable practices

With clean, renewable hydropower as our primary product, Chelan PUD takes its environmental stewardship responsibilities seriously and is committed to sustainable operation.
