LED lighting is more efficient, durable, versatile and longer lasting than incandescent and fluorescent lighting. LEDs emit light in a specific direction, whereas an incandescent or fluorescent bulb emits light – and heat – in all directions. LED lighting uses both light and energy more efficiently.
Holiday Lighting
LED holiday lights can save 90 percent or more energy when compared to incandescent lights. They’re made in the same shapes and varieties as standard lights, stay cool to the touch, and last longer – roughly 20,000 hours. The Department of Energy estimates that if American households and businesses switched to LED holiday lights, it would save close to the output of a large (1,000 MW) electric power plant, or the annual electrical consumption of 500,000 households.

LED TVs
The introduction of LEDs into HDTV design is a new and promising development. LED televisions are basically LCD TVs with one crucial difference – the handful of traditional backlight lamps that illuminate the screen have been replaced by hundreds of smaller LEDs. Since LEDs require less power to illuminate the screen, the drop in power consumption is significant.
