Chelan County PUD
News Release
7/6/2010
Following a two-hour executive session, Chelan PUD commissioners in open session decided to name Chief Finance/Risk Officer John Janney to become interim manager of the PUD upon the departure of General Manager Rich Riazzi on July 28. Janney will serve until commissioners establish a process and select the next general manager.
"I am honored, and I will do my best to fulfill that role," said Janney as he accepted the interim appointment. Riazzi has already designated Janney as acting manager during any absences between now and Riazzi’s last day of work on July 27. Janney has led the work on the financial component of a new strategic plan the PUD is updating, work the commission endorsed by resolution on June 21. The new financial guidelines are designed to stabilize revenues in coming years and smooth out the ups and downs that have led to financial shortfalls this year and last with the poor economy, low river flows and below-normal power prices on the surplus power market.
Riazzi, who has served as general manager since May 2006, announced his resignation from the PUD last week to accept the job as president and CEO of Duquesne Light Company in Pittsburgh, PA, where Riazzi grew up and where his extended family still lives.
PUD commissioners also decided Tuesday afternoon to hold a special meeting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, in the PUD boardroom to discuss a procedure for selecting the next general manager. Both motions were approved unanimously.
