PUD purchases site for water reservoir

Chelan County PUD
News Release
5/3/2010

As part of the ongoing effort to look ahead, maintain reliability and plan for future needs, Chelan County PUD commissioners approved a resolution Monday buying a site for a future water reservoir to bolster the PUD’s water system in the southern part of the county.

The resolution calls for the PUD to acquire about three-fourths of an acre from owner Kevin Gates in the lower Squilchuck Canyon area south of Beuzer Street. Included in the purchase price of $345,503 will be extensive improvements to be made to the property to make it ready to have the reservoir constructed in the future, including an access and utility easement.

The PUD’s water system serves about 5,000 customers in areas outside the Wenatchee core, primarily the southern areas of the county, along the western edge of the city and north into Sunnyslope and Monitor. Separate smaller systems serve parts of the Upper Wenatchee River Valley and small areas near Lake Chelan.
