Power restored quickly following strong winds on Thursday

Chelan County PUD
News Release
4/23/2010

Several power outages were reported around Chelan County Thursday afternoon as winds gusted above 30 mph.

Lasting just six minutes, the outage with the largest impact occurred at 4:07 p.m. when the high-voltage line carrying power from the Rocky Reach Switchyard to Chelan tripped off line. That line provides power to more than 2,200 Chelan County PUD customers living on the south shore of Lake Chelan and south along Highway 97A to Entiat, among others. PUD system operators were able to restore service by remote control to most customers by 4:13 p.m. Wind is believed to be the cause.

Just before 4 p.m. a power outage was reported on School Street in Sunnyslope, north of Wenatchee. PUD crews found a power line on the ground and fixed it. Service was restored to most of the 125 customers affected by 5:15 p.m. and all by 5:45 p.m.

Earlier in the day, tree limbs in the line caused an outage from Coles Corner west along Stevens Pass Highway to White Pine Road, affecting about 200 customers. The outage was reported about 1:30 p.m. and power restored by 3:10 p.m. Outages affecting just a few customers were also reported Wednesday near Lake Wenatchee and in Cashmere.
