Dock permits again being accepted at PUD

Chelan County PUD
News Release
4/12/2010

Chelan County PUD commissioners voted Monday to reinstate a dock policy that had been suspended temporarily while the board considered whether changes were needed.

The policy affects only small amounts of PUD-owned land along the shorelines of Rocky Reach reservoir and Lake Chelan. Private property owners who want to place docks across PUD-owned land (sometimes underwater) are required to get a permit from the PUD and pay a fee.

The policy was reviewed recently because an application was received for a private dock across PUD land near a public swimming area at Waters Street in Chelan. Commissioner Ann Congdon had requested the review.

“I’m satisfied that the policy will work,” said Congdon. She said she had faith in the ability of PUD staff to determine when short-term versus long-term permits would be in the PUD’s interest. Even with a permit, private owners can be forced to remove a dock on PUD land if it interferes with required PUD operations.

In other action, commissioners:

  • Approved a resolution authorizing an expanded agreement with Strategies 360, Seattle, for services on federal and state government relations, strategic planning and public communications;
  • Scheduled a board strategic planning retreat for 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, April 20, at a location to be determined. The location will be announced at the April 19 board meeting.

The next regular commission meeting is at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 19, 2010, in the PUD boardroom at 327 N. Wenatchee Ave. Commissioners will continue meeting at 6 p.m. that evening at Michael’s On The Lake in Moses Lak,e where commissioners will participate in the quarterly meeting of commissioners and managers from the three Mid-Columbia PUDs.

Most PUD commission meetings are recorded, and a link to the audio is available on the PUD’s home page at www.chelanpud.org.
