Chelan County PUD
News Release
12/19/2008
Electric service was restored to all of the about 80 customers living in Ollala Canyon west of Cashmere at about 8 p.m. Friday.
Repairs to the underground line were finished about 5 p.m., but very cold temperatures and heavy demand on the line as it was returned to service – a situation known as “cold load pick-up” - caused another outage. PUD crews then worked in stages to restore service up the canyon to the end of the line. The outage was reported at about 6:20 a.m. Friday.
PUD customers who lose power can help with cold load pick-up by turning off all but one light, their electric furnace and major appliances. Once power is restored, please wait 10 minutes before turning on the heat and other appliances.
For more information on what to do when the lights go out and how to keep your home more comfortable during the winter visit the PUD’s Web site and click on the links in the “Cold Weather Alert” box on the home page.
