Storm may cause Lake Chelan level to rise

Chelan County PUD
News Release
11/5/2008

A National Weather Service forecast for 4 to 6 inches of precipitation in the mountains above Lake Chelan in the next two days could cause the level of the lake to rise noticeably. The forecast also calls for the freezing level to rise above 8,000 feet.

The situation could be similar to 2006 when Stehekin received almost 7 inches of rain on Nov. 6-Nov. 7. Inflows increased the elevation of Lake Chelan more than 2 feet during that time. The current elevation of Lake Chelan is 1094.1 feet.

Homeowners and contractors working along the lakefront are urged to check weather Web sites to monitor the situation.
