Visitor Center to close for security exercise on Oct. 23

Rocky Reach Visitor Center will close for one day, Oct. 23, to host a regional security drill.

Signs will be posted to let travelers know there is a security test and to reduce concern about seeing emergency vehicles at the dam.

Eight local law enforcement and emergency agencies will join Chelan County PUD in the day-long test of regional response to a mock emergency at the dam.

“Operation Cooperation” will bring together participants from the Chelan County and Douglas County Sheriff’s Offices, Wenatchee Police, Chelan County Regional SWAT Team, Washington State Patrol, Merchant Patrol Security, Chelan County Fire District 1 and RiverCom dispatch.

Bill Larson, PUD deputy security director, is coordinating the drill.
