Reminder: Lake Chelan level is changing

Chelan County PUD
News Release
8/29/2008

Boaters and other lake users are reminded that the level of Lake Chelan is planned to drop gradually after Labor Day from near 1,100 feet above sea level to about 1097.2 feet by Oct. 1.

This is the second year of operation under the federal license granted in 2006 for the Lake Chelan Hydro Project, which includes the dam near Chelan and the powerhouse at Chelan Falls.

Many factors affect lake level including precipitation, temperature, snowpack and the amount and timing of spring runoff, as well as compliance with the hydro project’s federal operating license and environmental objectives. In addition, there is the goal to meet target lake elevations May through October.

More information is available on the PUD’s Web site at www.chelanpud.org under “fish counts and lake levels,” or from Scott Buehn, PUD power resource engineer at (509) 661-4828; scott.buehn@chelanpud.org.
