Our Web site lets you get things done 24/7. Here are a few things you can do on the PUD Web.
Alcoa power sales contract signed
Following several years of discussion, PUD commissioners on July 14 unanimously approved a new power sales contract with Alcoa to start in 2011 that will supply power for its Wenatchee aluminum smelter through October 2028.
The contract will provide Alcoa with electricity equal to 26 percent of the output of Rocky Reach and Rock Island dams, in exchange for Alcoa paying 26 percent of the cost of producing and delivering the power, plus other costs and charges.
Fences will protect wildlife habitat west of Wenatchee
Chelan County PUD Fish and Wildlife crews are installing barricades across unauthorized trails on PUD land in the hills west of Wenatchee to protect wildlife habitat required by the District’s federal license to operate Rock Island Dam.
The main trail across PUD land that links sections of the Sage Hills Trails managed by the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust will remain open spring, summer and fall. The trail is closed Dec. 1 to April 1 each year to protect deer on their winter range.
Keep cool; be ready for summer power outages
We want to help customers use energy wisely and be prepared in case of a power outage from lightning storms or wildfires.
Summer is the time for lightning strikes and wildfires. You can report a power problem or get updates if there is an outage by calling the PUD’s outage information line at 1-877-PUD-8123 (1-877-783-8123).
Commissioners consider draft water and sewer rates
Continuing the discussion on how the cost of providing utility services matches revenue from rates, PUD commissioners Monday looked at draft water and sewer rates for 2009.
Following the direction from the commission to trim the gap between revenue from rates and the cost of providing service, staff drafted an initial design with average increases of 6.9 percent for water and 6.5 percent for sewer in 2009. The draft is a work in progress. If adopted, new rates would go into effect in January or April of next year.
