Outage planned to connect second Lake Chelan underwater power line

Chelan County PUD
News Release
5/16/2008

A 10-hour power outage is planned, starting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, so contract crews can safely energize the new underwater cable that will carry electricity from the Manson Substation to the south shore of Lake Chelan.

The outage will affect about 800 Chelan County PUD customers on the south shore from Twenty-five Mile Creek to the state park including Chelan Ridge.

During the outage, contract crews from Mountain Power will connect the second underwater cable to equipment on both sides of the lake and energize the line. The 25-KV distribution line was laid along the lake bottom on April 23. The 3,400 feet of power line follows the same route as the existing line. Having two lines will increase reliability as the existing line was installed in the 1980s and is nearing the end of its useful life.

Total project cost is about $1.3 million.
