Automated meters on the way

Chelan County PUD is moving down the path to begin installation of automated electric meters for all customers, starting this year. Replacing every electric meter over the next several years is estimated to cost up to $15 million, with a payback of 8 to 13 years, according to current estimates.

Chelan work begins

Five construction projects at the Lake Chelan Hydro Project are under way to ensure the long-term reliability of its two generating units and to improve habitat for steelhead and Chinook salmon as called for in the dam’s new 50-year federal license.

Rocky Reach Visitor Center opens for season

Rocky Reach Visitor Center opened for the 2008 season March 15. Visitors can “Experience Chelan County” through a video that takes viewers on a trip up the Columbia River and see an exhibit about the PUD’s other dam on the Columbia, Rock Island. More than 60,000 people visited the hydroelectric project last year, which offers free tours of the powerhouse and museum, plus art displays, a theater and fish viewing. The Visitor Center also has a café.

Western Avenue traffic will be interrupted

Improvements to water line connections for PUD customers along Western Avenue will require closing the road between Fifth and Washington streets on weekdays from March 31- April 18. The work is needed to connect PUD water customers on the west side of Western Avenue to a newer water pipe on the east side of the road. Visit the PUD’s Outage and Alerts page to view traffic alerts related to the project.
