Meetings continue on proposed Alcoa contract

Photo of Alcoa Wenatchee WorksPUD staff and commissioners are continuing to hold public meetings on a possible framework for long-term energy supply to the Alcoa Wenatchee Works that could keep three pot lines operating until at least 2028. Stehekin update

Residents of the remote community of Stehekin are being asked to be ready for possible winter power outages, as the community’s Company Creek hydroelectric project isn’t as reliable a source of power as in previous winters. The small power plant was removed from service for repairs earlier this year and back-up diesel generators were used full time until the plant’s cracked hydropower wheel was repaired and put back in service in October. A new wheel is expected to be installed in March 2008. Until then, electric service may not be as reliable as in winters past. Read about PUD service in Stehekin here.
