Wind is likely culprit in power outages
Chelan County PUD
News Release
11/13/2007
Strong wind is believed to be the cause for two power outages in the Chelan Valley and for other brief or isolated outages across the county.
Electric service was interrupted about 3:40 p.m. Monday for several hundred Chelan County PUD customers served by the Union Valley substation at Chelan, including the city’s downtown. Power was restored to downtown by 4:20 p.m. and the remaining customers by 5:15. PUD crews reported debris blown into the Union Valley distribution line as the likely cause.
PUD crews are still evaluating the cause of a second Chelan-area outage affecting customers on South Shore Road. The outage was reported about 3:40 p.m. and power was restored by 7 p.m. It’s not known exactly how many PUD customers were affected.
Lights blinked on and off for many North Wenatchee customers about 6:05 p.m. Monday. Another brief outage was reported about 9 p.m. on the transmission line that carries power from Rocky Reach Dam to Entiat, the Entiat Valley and the south shore of Lake Chelan. Power was restored within five minutes.
