Framework proposed for extending long-term Alcoa energy supply

PUD staff has briefed the Board of Commissioners on a possible framework for long-term energy supply to the Alcoa Wenatchee Works that could keep three pot lines operating until at least 2028. Alcoa officials have endorsed the proposed plan.

Commissioners will carefully review terms of the proposed term sheet and other information before deciding whether it meets the needs of the PUD. Public meetings will be scheduled to present full details of the proposal, to receive comment from the community and to answer questions. At least one meeting will be an evening session. The next public discussions are scheduled by the board at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, and 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the PUD board room, 327 N. Wenatchee Ave.

Automated electric meters may be on the horizon

Starting next year, the first batch of electric meters in Chelan County could be read automatically over the PUD’s fiber-optic network or with other technology.

This month, Customer Service Director John Stoll discussed with commissioners the benefits of an automated system, including increased reliability, decreased outage times, increased bill accuracy and reduced emissions from vehicles now on the road to read about 45,000 meters each month manually.
