Power poles being tested for safety
Chelan County PUD
News Release
9/26/2007
Contract crews are checking wood power poles in the Wenatchee area this fall for insect damage and rot as part of an ongoing safety program at Chelan County PUD.
The work to prolong the useful life of the poles includes digging around the base of the pole, injecting poles with material to deter bugs and fungus and wrapping the base with treated barrier cloth.
Crews from Osmose Utility Services are testing power poles in the Squilchuck area, in neighborhoods near Wenatchee High School served by the Saddlerock Substation and on poles carrying lines from the downtown Wenatchee and Western Avenue substations.
Poles are checked for wear and damage and treated every 10 to 15 years to ensure safety for customers and for PUD line workers. Any pole deemed unsafe during an inspection is replaced immediately.
Chelan County PUD has budgeted $ 150,000 for pole testing in 2007. The PUD has about 25,000 wood poles in its electric system.
