PUD consolidates jobs as executive heads to Puget Sound Energy
Chelan County PUD
News Release
5/16/2007
Chelan County PUD and Puget Sound Energy announced today that Ed Odom, the PUD’s executive manager of Generation, will be leaving the PUD June 1 to take a position with Puget Sound Energy as manager of Asset Services. The primary reason for Odom’s departure is that his wife, Pam Anderson, lives and works in Seattle, and the two would like to be together. She is an attorney working on energy issues for the firm of Van Ness Feldman.
At Chelan County PUD, Executive Manager Randy Lowe will take on duties overseeing the Generation Group in addition to the Energy Resources Group he already leads. His new position will be effective June 4. His title will be executive manager of the Energy Resources Group.
“This alignment consolidates energy generation and energy services in one group with accountability for both operating costs and revenue generation,” said PUD General Manager Rich Riazzi. “I think it will serve us well here at Chelan PUD. It continues our work on realigning the organization for the most efficient operations.”
The PUD announced in March a new organizational structure that shifted several departments into new alignment under seven executive managers. The PUD said at the time that it was a first step in looking for opportunities for further operational efficiencies.
“I will miss Ed and all he contributes to the PUD,” added Riazzi today. “But I understand his priorities and I wish him success in his new position.”
Odom, who first came to work for the PUD as a consultant in 1996, said, “This has been a wonderful place for me. The opportunity to be part of a great organization meant a lot.” He said he was especially proud of his work as part of a team rehabilitating the 11 turbines and generators at Rocky Reach Dam and overseeing construction of the fish bypass system at Rocky Reach that is critical to the PUD’s environmental obligations for fish passage.
Odom first came to work for the PUD as a consultant with Stone and Webster Engineering in 1996, working on the rehabilitation of generating units at Rocky Reach Dam. He became a PUD employee the first time in 1999 as the senior project manager on the Rocky Reach rehabilitation. Odom left in 2001-2002 to work for Calpine Corporation as plant manager at the Goldendale Energy Center, but he was hired back to Chelan County PUD in 2002 as manager of rehabilitation projects. He became an assistant general manager overseeing Generation in 2003.
Lowe has worked for Chelan County PUD in various positions for more than 12 years. He started as Water/Building maintenance superintendent in 1989 and worked until 1997 when he left to take a job at AIG Trading, a national energy marketing firm. He returned to the PUD in December 2001 as a strategic project consultant. He has led the Power Management department since early 2004 and was just recently named one of the PUD’s seven executive managers.
“This is a challenging job,” he said this morning, “and I‘m looking forward to it. We’re entering a new era of opportunity with all the upgrades we’re making to our generating facilities.”
