Discovering our Roots
July 17-18, 2008
Rocky Reach Visitor Center and Horan Natural Area

This 1-1/2 day program will introduce children and adults to wildlife, plants, and Native American life.

Thursday, July 17 :: Rocky Reach Visitor Center, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Chelan PUD wildlife biologist Kelly Cordell-Stine provides an interactive presentation of locally common wildlife and teaches the art of making track castings of wildlife footprints.

Raptor House Rehabilitation Center director Marsha Flamm gives a face-to-face meeting with several incredible birds of prey while teaching their ecological significance. Discover how Chelan County PUD programs are helping these magnificent creatures.

Renowned Native American artist, Roger Amerman, teaches the cultural significance of native habitats with a dynamic presentation that includes the building of a traditional structure with native plants and a fun treasure hunt in the Museum of the Columbia.

Friday, July 18 :: Walla Walla Point Park/Horan Natural Area, 9 a.m. - noon

Embark on an awe-inspiring discovery tour of the Horan Natural Area.  We will encounter many of the native plants and have a chance to view wildlife we learned about on Day 1 of the program.  Following the discovery tour, we will return to a traditional Nez Perce teepee at Walla Walla Point Park for a traditional Native American plant and animal celebration.
