Public invited back for next PUD strategy session
Chelan County PUD
News Release
11/10/2006
The second in a series of public meetings on the future direction of Chelan County PUD will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at the Confluence Technology Center. Focus of the meeting will be to take a detailed look at the PUD’s financial situation and provide information about financial trends, what drives those trends and what the PUD may want to do to manage them.
The presentation will look five years backward and also estimate conditions five years forward. “We’ll look at what can influence our future financial picture,” said PUD General Manager Rich Riazzi. “We’ll be figuring out how much risk we should accept, how much debt we should carry, what our cash reserve levels should be and how to set priorities for future spending.”
Among areas the PUD must consider are:
- Investing hundreds of millions of dollars in rebuilding turbines and generators at hydroelectric dams;
- Expanding a wholesale fiber-optics network;
- Improving water service and adding service territory as pressure for development increases;
- Continuing investment in protecting fish and maintaining parks.
This evening strategic discussion is the second in a series of at least four meetings designed to take an in-depth look at where the PUD stands today and what risks lie ahead.
In the final meeting of the series (coming up early in 2007), board members will be asked to establish policies to guide management decisions in coming years.
Public comment will be invited during each meeting, including the session on Nov. 20.
