PUD commissioners discuss general manager selection

Chelan County PUD
News Release
10/25/2005

PUD commissioners Tuesday agreed on several broad steps for conducting the search for a new general manager. They also set a special meeting for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, to discuss selection of an interim manager and to continue discussion of the general manager selection process.

General Manager Charlie Hosken announced last week he is leaving Chelan County PUD for a job at the Imperial Irrigation District in Southern California. Hosken has worked for the PUD for 13 years, serving as general manager since last 2001. His last day on the job will be Nov. 25.

PUD commissioners agreed on the following steps for the general manager selection:

  • To hire an executive search firm, with a scope that may involve a national search, to identify a slate of candidates. Selection of the firm will be discussed at a public meeting.
  • That the interim manager selected by the PUD commission will not be eligible to apply for the general manager position.
  • Six public meetings will be scheduled in the evening at locations around the county to gather input from PUD customers, community members and PUD employees on qualifications and characteristics needed for a new general manager. That information will be used to develop a profile for the position, which will be discussed at a public meeting. Dates for those meetings will be announced soon.
  • The five PUD commissioners will review the applications and interview candidates. Informal meetings with select PUD staff may be part of that process, but all of it will be confidential. Commissioners said confidentiality is important to make sure the best-qualified candidates apply.
  • Once the finalist is selected, but before the person is hired, the candidate will be invited to meet with PUD employees and the public.

Following Tuesday’s meeting, commissioners will reconvene at 8 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26, for a Northwest Open Access Network (NOANet) meeting at Douglas County PUD in East Wenatchee. They also set a special meeting for 1:30 p.m.on Wednesday, Oct. 26,  in the PUD boardroom, to discuss selection of an interium manager and continue discussion of the general manager selection process.

The next regular meeting of the PUD Board of Commissioners is at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, in the PUD boardroom at 327 N. Wenatchee Ave.

Most PUD commission meetings are recorded, and a link to the audio is available on the PUD’s home page at www.chelanpud.org.
