News Release

News from the regular meeting of the Chelan County Public Utility District Board of Commissioners held on Monday, Dec. 12, 2005.
Public meeting set Jan 9. on proposed power sales contract
Commissioners will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. on Jan. 9 at the Wenatchee Center to discuss the proposed Puget Sound Energy power sales contract.
PUD General Counsel Carol Wardell and the negotiating team will outline the new 20-year contract and answer questions from the public.
The agreement, which would allocate to PSE 25 percent of the power output from Rocky Reach and Rock Island dams in exchange for paying 25 percent of the costs, would maintain local control for Chelan County PUD and provide long-term financial stability.
The contract would allow the PUD to pay down debt, pay for some future capital improvements at the dams without borrowing, and PSE would provide an $89 million payment as soon as contract is approved.

PUD commissioners also set Jan. 30, 2006, as the date for taking action on the proposed new contract. That would require PUD staff to present the resolution seeking approval at the Jan. 16 commission meeting. It would then be held for two weeks before final action.
In other business, commissioners:
- Rejected the claim for damages filed in October by attorneys for Michael Ryan Pattison, who was injured in May 2005 in a diving accident at Don Morse Park on Lake Chelan.
- Heard an update from Rich Trimble of Energy Northwest on the agency’s approval process for new energy generation projects. The PUD is a member of the agency and a participant in its Nine Canyon Wind Project.
- Deleted a section of the recording of Monday’s meeting about a data center project for security reasons.
