The city of Cashmere has asked Chelan County PUD to move into the next phase of evaluation on future ownership of the city’s electric system.
The request was made in a March 3 letter shared with PUD commissioners on Monday.
At the city’s request, the PUD took part in an initial evaluation of the Cashmere electric system, which serves about 1,400 customers inside the city limits. Results of the study of the system by HDR Engineering were discussed at a public meeting on Jan. 11 in Cashmere.
PUD commissioners Monday asked Jeff Smith, PUD intergovernmental relations director, to respond to the city’s letter, indicating PUD willingness to have staff continue discussions, but making clear that the board has taken no position on the issue of future ownership of the system.
In other business, commissioners:
- Listened to a presentation on how the PUD measures and evaluates the effectiveness of its hatchery programs by Fisheries Director Shaun Seaman and Chuck Peven, fisheries programs manager.
- Heard from Commissioner Ann Congdon about her trip to Washington, D.C., last week to meet with members of the state’s congressional delegation. Congdon said she was pleased with the reception she and Andrew Munro, PUD governmental affairs director, received. A $1.6 million grant application for the Monitor water system was one of the items she discussed with U.S. Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and Congressman Doc Hastings.
- Learned that 107 people have applied for the PUD general manager position, including seven from the Northwest and three internal applicants. Consultant Jerry Oldani will review a short list of applicants with PUD commissioners next week. PUD commissioners changed the start time of the March 13 meeting to 10 a.m. to handle regular business. Discussion of the applicants will begin at 1 p.m. in executive session.
