PUD negotiates decrease in insurance costs
Chelan County PUD
News Release
5/22/2006
PUD commissioners approved insurance policy purchases of almost $2 million Monday, a 3.6-percent reduction from last year’s, June 1, policy costs.
While some organizations saw their insurance costs rise from last year due to natural disasters and Hurricane Katrina’s effect on insurance markets, Kathy Lee and Ron Gibbs, from the PUD’s Safety and Enterprise Risk Management Department, reported pricing for the PUD will be an overall decrease compared to last year's policies. Final costs for the policies are expected to be about $1.99 million, $265,000 below the 2006 budget.
A majority of the PUD's policies expire on June 1.
Policies purchased through about 15 carriers include general liability, property, boiler and machinery, crime, kidnap and ransom, and blackout/brownout insurance.
Commissioners commended the work done by Lee and Gibbs to negotiate the cost decrease.
In other business, commissioners:
- Approved a $970,000 contract with ETG, Overland Park, Kan., for aerial surveys of the PUD’s power system. ETG will use proprietary radar and GPS technology to report safety issues and ground clearance for the PUD’s transmission lines. The company will also provide an aerial survey of Chelan County.
- Authorized a $256,000 contract with David L. Sack Construction Co. Inc., Burien, to demolish the water treatment plant in the powerhouse of Rocky Reach Dam. The plant has been replaced by an on-site septic system that also serves the Visitor Center and grounds.

Due to the Memorial Day holiday, commissioners will hold their next regular business meeting at 1 p.m. on May 30, in the boardroom of the PUD Headquarters Building, 327 N. Wenatchee Ave.
Most PUD commission meetings are recorded, and a link to the audio is available on the PUD’s Web site, www.chelanpud.org.
