Chelan County PUD employees raised $3,780 as part of the community effort to help Sgt. Michael Buyas of Chelan.

Eleven PUD line and water crew members donated time on Feb. 12 to install underground power and an electric service at the new, accessible home being built by community members for Buyas in Chelan. He was seriously injured when his military vehicle ran over a land mine in Iraq last December. He is now at Walter Reed Medical Center undergoing rehabilitation.

Distribution Department employees then took on the task of raising the $1,846 needed to pay for materials and the connection fee. Workers across the utility responded, raising a total of $3,281. The additional funds were deposited in the Michael Buyas Fund in care of Washington Mutual, Chelan branch.

PUD line crew foreman Tom Kibler, Chelan, organized the work party. Bill Leffler, Chelan superintendent, and Sarah DeLozier, new services coordinator in Wenatchee, handled the fund-raising.
