Richard Riazzi named as top candidate for Chelan County PUD manager

WENATCHEE – Chelan County Public Utility District commissioners on Monday named Richard Riazzi, 51, of Boise, Idaho, as their top choice for general manager and will introduce him to employees and the public at meetings on Thursday.

Riazzi has extensive experience and proven success in the utility industry with IDACORP, Inc., IDACORP Energy, L.P., and Equitable Resources, Inc., a natural gas and energy services company headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pa. Since December 2004, Riazzi has served as a paid member of the board of directors of American Ecology Corp., based in Boise. American Ecology, through its subsidiaries, provides radioactive, PCB, hazardous and non-hazardous waste services to commercial and public entities throughout the United States.

In his most recent utility experience, Riazzi served from 1999-2003 as president and CEO of IDACORP Energy, L.P., the energy marketing arm of IDACORP, Inc., which is the parent company of Idaho Power. That utility serves about 400,000 customers in the southwest part of Idaho and nearby portions of adjoining states. Riazzi also served as executive vice president of IDACORP, Inc., with responsibilities for generation and marketing, including executive management oversight of the hydro relicensing.

Riazzi loves hunting, fishing, boating, camping and golf. He and his wife, Carol, have two sons, 27 and 25, and are expecting their first grandchild in July.

PUD commissioners have scheduled a meeting for PUD employees to meet Riazzi at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at The Wenatchee Center. That will be followed at 7:30 p.m. with an opportunity for the public to meet the candidate, ask questions and then provide feedback to commissioners. The board is expected to take further steps in the hiring process next Monday.
