Dead trees don’t mix well with power lines

An incident near Plain this week has prompted a reminder from Chelan County PUD to suggest that homeowners inspect their trees to evaluate if they are dying, dead or leaning toward power lines.
A dry, dead ponderosa pine fell into a nearby power line this week, starting a small fire that could have become much larger had it not been contained by prompt action.
The PUD’s forestry staff reminds homeowners, especially those in rural areas surrounded by trees, that removal of limbs near power lines and removal of taller dead trees that could fall into power lines is a good safety precaution. Power outages in the county are often caused by trees and limbs that fall or are blown by high winds into power lines.
The PUD’s Forestry Operations Department will be happy to visit and offer guidance on tree removal if property owners are concerned about interference with power lines. Please call 661-4518.
